Ashwood Children's Centre acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, live and play,
the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nations, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Sovereignty has never been ceded and this was and always will be First Nations' land.
We appreciate and celebrate diversity in all its forms. We believe diversity of all kinds makes our community stronger
Our Kitchen
Ashwood Childrens Centre are proudly registered as a "Start right, eat right" centre and, as a result of this accreditation, have a responsibility to provide your children with a minimum of 50% of the RDI (Recommended Daily Intake).
When we prepare our menus, we take the first draft and work it through a formula which tells us exactly what we are providing in relation to the RDI for your children. Alterations are made accordingly, and the finished product is then used by the Centre's cook so that she can finalise the ordering processes and issue to the Room Leaders for display in their rooms. You will note on each of the menus that each food/meal has initials marked beside it - the legend at the bottom of each menu explains the relevant food category for that food/meal.
Remember, we also serve breakfast and late snack for some of our children daily, but these foods cannot be included in the formula as it is not deemed the majority will receive these meals. We feel it is important for you to have this information for 2 reasons:
You will understand the important process of developing our menus and
how seriously we take your child's nutrition.
You may gain some insight into what the RDI is for your child outside of the times
they are at ACC and adjust some of the portions you provide at home.
It is important for you to know that all children should be receiving the following quantities in the following food areas whilst they are in our care.
